Visiting Porquerolles Island from the Rental Villa

The largest of the three islands, Porquerolles is a true jewel of the French Riviera.
It is a no car paradise.
Its long sandy beaches, welcoming pine trees, and warm turquoise water are a delight for visitors. When docking/arriving in the harbour of Porquerolles, hire a bicycle and choose either the West coast towards the Hotel du Langoustier (a sporting ride) or the East coast (an easier ride).
Take plenty of drinking water and a light snack, as the village is the only place where you can buy groceries. On the east side, the long beaches of Courtade and Notre Dame have white sand and are shaded by the pine trees. Towards the west point, La plage d'Argent (Silver Beach) is wonderful for a first swim but carry on until you reach the other beaches: Langoustier and Noire. The walk up to the lighthouse (about one and a half hours return) on the south point of the Island is a must. There are beautiful views over the coastline of the Var.
Fort Saint Agatha, above the harbour, is within easy walking access. Visitors are welcome and the historical museum retraces the past of the islands from Roman times.

Visiting Port Cros from the Rental Villa

A National Park since 1963, to protect the fauna and flora both above and below sea level. Port Cros is a rocky and green island with transparent waters full of Mediterranean fish. Here there are no cars, no bicycles, no smoking, no fishing, no picking flowers - just well behaved visitors.. The harbour is just a jetty for the ferry and a few sailing yachts. There are a few shops, restaurants and clean toilets. The bay of Port Cros has not changed in 50 years (except the toilets, thank heavens!) and hopefully will stay like that for many years to come. The bay can become very busy with yachts in the high season. Visitor numbers are limited, so make sure you reserve your crossing in advance.
A well signposted walking trail will help you to discover the island. Visit the Fort de L'Estissac, before a swim at the beach of La Palud (30mns walk). The Valon of Solitude is a beautiful walk with stunning views at the top. A walk to Port Man (East point of the island) is a 10km return trip.
Good shoes and plenty of drinking water are essential.

Visiting Levant Island from the Rental Villa

A naturist centre since 1931, ninety per cent of the island is owned by the French Navy. The island is very wild with high cliffs. The only village, Héliopolis, has shops, restaurants, hotels and all water sports. The coastal footpath allows you to discover the rest of the island. Just forget your pants or you really look like a tourist!
